W. E. Co guide free fishing rod

Hi,

I have a fishing rod made by W. E. Company. It has no guides. The line runs through the center of the rod. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it or where i could find information on it.

Thanks

Re: W. E. Co guide free fishing rod

i've not heard of the above company,

the idea has been around for years though , most recently it was reintroduced in the early 90's

when they were reffered to as 'interline ' rods,
several companys developed their own versions ,
as an example -

http://www.daiwafishing.com.au/daiwa...rods=interline

if the wear issues to the inside of the blank ,esp' the tip, have been resolved
i see no reason why they cannot be used to catch or cast.

but i think the reason that they never caught on here in the uk was problems with weed jamming in the tip, plus its just fiddley to run the line up through the blank when you set up.

comon forumites, has anyoneelse actually fished with one??

probably more popular with boat anglers?? looking at the above link the passage of shockleader knots was a problem.

hmmn,.............50lb braid straight through might cure that , the need for a threading tool is def gonna cause greif

On the rod that I have it says that it is guide free. It has a patentpending number on it but you cant read it. It also says it was made in LA Califonia. It is old. I wish I could find out what year it was made in.

Re: W. E. Co guide free fishing rod

I remember Diawa bringing one out a few years ago.

These rods are Ideal for poking through branches etc. when dapping or stalking fish in the margins through and under branches etc. as the line doesn't get snagged; but they weren't popular because of the tendancy for the line to pick up weed and clogg the inside of the blank.

I had not heard of the 'W. E. Co guide free fishing rod'.

I found the following auction site which sold one with a reel for 30$ on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 if this is the same rod.
