| Back to the fold Hi All First post so apologies for the rambling. After about 20 years of no fishing (girls and beer drew me away as a teenager) i've got the bug again. We hired a narrow boat on the Llangollen canal last year so i dug out my aged gear (reel handle broke on the 2nd day oops) and enjoyed a few hours morning and evening catching small roach and perch while the missus sleeped/chilled. We're doing the same again in a couple of weeks so i decided i'd treat myself with a new rod - got myself a Shaky Mach3 XT 13' float...then thought a feeder rod would be nice...Mach2XT 12' feeder...ooh need new holdall.....so many tempting things to buy - must stop ![]() Had a walk round a couple of local lakes yesterday and the GU canal is a 5 minute walk away so i'm pretty excited about getting back into it now. Things certainly seemed to have changed from my youth angling days though; so much kit people seem to need/have these days. Have things changed so much or is it just things seems more accessible now i don't have to work saturday jobs for a year for that elusive 2nd hand mitchell match reel that will hopfully be in the sale? Anyway - sorry told you i'd ramble - any tips for Llangollen canal? We'll be starting at Whitchurch and going all the way up to Llangollen. Roach/perch and the odd bream i reckon will probably be the spaple diet but i fancy having a go for some tench if i find the right spots. And i'll be honest i've never ever bagged a carp which seems strange i guess bearing in mind the apparent focus on carp nowadays. Any tips welcome. Cheers All |

| Re: Back to the fold Hey, sounds like me and a lot of new people on here. I hadn't fished for about 13 years and have the bug again, and also the patience i didn't have as a teenager. I had never landed a carp until this year and so far My tally is 5. A lot of all the new gear isn't essential but it's there if you ever fancy a go. I bought myself a new match rod and have basically been fishing the float this year and had a variety of fish all caught on cheap baits, Sweetcorn, which I colour and flavour myself, and bread. Have a great trip in a couple of weeks, let us know how it goes. Gav __________________ Fish List-2010: Bream, Common Carp, Mirror Carp, Ghost/Common hybrid, Roach, Rudd, Tench |
