| Re: advice on river fishing... I fish the trent for carp ,barbel, bream and chub(or anything else with gills). As this is fast flowing water I use 3-4 oz cage/flat bottom barbel feeders free running to a swivelled 2 foot hooklink with hair rigged pellet/boilie. the feeder is filled with small pellets plugged with ground bait. I have my rods set up at a 60 degree angles on 4 foot bank sticks with hinged attachments to keep as much line out of the flow as I can. I also use bait runner reels for the carp and barbel. There are many other methods but I hope this gives you a few Ideas. If you are targeting the smaller fish then just scale things down, IE smaller hook, bait ect ect. Apologies if this doesn't make sense as ive just Finnished a 12 hour night shift lol. Also the find out from local anglers when the best tide is to catch as mine seems to be high tide __________________ Species 2011.. | Re: advice on river fishing... Lob worm is a good perch bait, fed with chopped worm either in feeder on just chucked in if close enough, never used prawn b4 tho so wouldnt know. As for location, perch are predators and hunt in shoals/packs using cover to creep up on prey so any obvious fish hold ups shud be a good spot __________________ Species 2011.. | Re: advice on river fishing... i suggest single maggoting for the live baits with a float at first then use the live baits to target the perch since they feed on the smaller fish 90% of the time yes using smaller fish might hit the trout and chub alot before the perch as there both also preditory fish but after a few trips and u get to know the river ull hit into the perch its a shamer theres no course fish in our river only browns salmon and sea trout lol << in season :P browns stocked at 2lb+ but its full of rocks so u snagg alot my biggest trout from the river is 4lb salmon is 8 and sea trout was 22lb sea trout caught on fly slamon spinner trout worm lol ill be going fishing to a new lake i fount in south wales called belfont lake its been around 5 years and was stocked with 5lb carp at the time so id say there around 8-10lb now and it also has 3lb+ tench so should be a good session |
