Re: featureless lakes it may be featureless above water it will not be featureless underwater, as ben says, search the lake for any areas that might attract the fish, plateaus, dips, weed beds , lily pads . you can learn a lot about a water with a marker float set up

Re: featureless lakes if the lake isn't too deep wading around is far more revealing than a marker set up, and you can always carry some markers to place on any interesting features you find. please remember to always use a wading staff when wading to avoid sudden drop off (your landing net pole will do) I CAN ASSURE YOU STEPPING FROM 5' OF WATER INTO A 19' HOLE IS NOT VERY AMUSING IN DECEMBER

Re: featureless lakes little tip for you. If you get a google sattelite map of the lake your fishing you will be able to see the deeper parts of the lak and any shallow areas by the change in colours of the image. Works on most images. If no contrast you can assume the depth is pretty constant. On man made commercials they are usually five foot deep with a shelf in the margins and a shallow area near an islands. Most are built that way. Its cheaper to escavate five feet than 10 feet! You might get the odd gravel bar thrown in if your lucky!
