Sweetcorn bait

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but what are your views on frozen sweetcorn is it as good as tinned when thawed out.
Regards

Re: Sweetcorn bait

i tend to use the frozen bags of sweetcorn as loose feed and the tinned stuff as hook bait as it seems bigger

Re: Sweetcorn bait

have to concur with fishypaul, use the frozen as loose feed (tesco blue stripe was about 90p a bag last season), and either pick out the larger kernals or buy a tin of JGG for hook baits

Re: Sweetcorn bait

just to add.....ive recently done my own particle mix.... the frozen corn loses its colour in this mix after a couple of days fermenting..... i added some corn from a tin and this has stayed tougher and yellow....

i spodded tons out yesterday and used pieces of corn from the mix.. the faint yellow fermented frozen stuff way outfished the yellow tinned stuff..

maybe this was cos it had fermented and taken on flavours from the hemp and groats? i dont know

Re: Sweetcorn bait

Fishing with corn is illegal in Wyoming, as the Fish and Game Department has determined that fish cannot digest corn and it kills them. Don't know personally if that is true or not. I know we use it in Montana, mostly as chum, fishing through the ice in winter.

Re: Sweetcorn bait

bcole,
I think its a myth that it kills fish (I think they're most concerned with trout). Its is used in many other states with no noticeable effect (aside from fish with holes in their mouths from hooks!).

Here in Texas trout are stocked in the winter as a put-and-take fishery; they won't survive the hot summer water temps. Of course many people use corn to catch lots of trout.

It is also illegal to use salmon eggs in Wyoming (or at least it used to be) because they catch too many fish! I think its the same with corn. MHO. ps. I grew up in Colorado...

Many if not most posters here are in the UK, and corn can be an effective bait for carp, bream, roach, and other minnow related fish. I use it often for carp, grassers, sunfish, and catfish over here.
