Red Letter Days....

It was one sticky summers evening. I had just finished a long days work on the glf course, arrived home to the beeping of my mobile receiving text messages from my brother. Yet again he was asking me to go down to the lake for a few hours light traveling carping. I realy wsn't in the mood as I'd just finished a 12 hour shift in the 30'c heat sat on a smell tractor, but about 15minutes later (yes its was really that long lol) I decided what better way to finish a good day than to sit by the lake with my brother who is also my best friend. We normally went four or five times aweek. It was a great way of just being one with nature, it wasn't always the greatest fishing sessions as the water is a difficult specemin lake.

We finally met up and walked through the trees towards the lake to that mystical sound of big carp taking flys from the top and there tails rippling the surface as the get there heads down to feed on the bottom in just 18 inches of water. Keeping well back I set up a quick freelining rig with just 2 grains of plastic corn. On my knees I gently lower the corn amongst the swirling carp to only go a spook the buggers! In a

huff I open a tin a corn and adding some scopex flavouring. Using a top section of an old pole and pole cup I slowly place some over the fake corn, at this time I didnt think much was going to happen as I'd just spooked the swim and its normaly a one shot sort of water.

Sitting back out of the way and in the shade, me and my brother started chatting about a 20lber that can out the day before. My PB at the time being only 14lb got me excited about how i'd handle a 20lb+ machine trying everything in its power to get away and avoid a steamy photoshoot with me

As I was day dreaming my brother elbowed me a said ''oi, muppet! thats ur ratchet I can hear'', in a mad panic, stumbling down the bank to find my rod sliding across the floor I reach out a hit it! With me only placing the bait 10 ft away it swirled and trashed right in front of me. Absolutly cacking my pants trying to come to terms with this massive fish on the end of my line, keeping it from the reeds and the sunken tree we got it in the net pretty quick (as you do with close in and snaggy fishing). The day dream had come true! when I could stop myself from shaking I finaly got it in the sling. 24lb 8oz Linear Mirror! I couldn't stop looking at her, didnt want to put her back, trying to work out if she'd fit in my tank at home lol

I finally did put her back, splashing water in my face in the proccess. Serves me right really. But it was all worth it.
