Re: keepnets

The matchman is making money if he wins so he needs a total weigh in..

Think it is b%%%%%%s really that a match man can stuff a net full of fish and be allowed to , while a pleasure angler can not use one ,

Easy answer ban match men pmsl

Re: keepnets

When I last fished club matches in the late 90's, when I was based in Surrey. No one used an unhooking mat when the dropped the keep net on the bank.
Also i had major probs with 20 or more pounds of fish resting on the fish at the bottom of the net when it was hauled out. They were mostly smaller fish that slipped down between others.
Some match anglers are very fish consious. Sadly most of them were not. Thay were also quite ignorant too.

Re: keepnets

i had the same dilemma when thinking of purchasing a keep net but i found i could use one on my local still water as a pleasure angler, all they ask is you dip them before use to kill viruses and i also use one when fishing the canal so not all fisheries ban them for pleasure anglers ,but i agree that most will only let matchmen use them and its out of order especially when they cram them full of fish and leave them that way for hours would we get away with it if we did that ?im not so sure

Re: keepnets

I understand the arguments about keepnets and the frustration with them over filling the nets. But some angling clubs and waters are now adopting the idea that one net for silver fish and one for carp, and some even are enforcing that they use several keepnets for carp. I do use a keepnet on my club water if I am fishing for silver fish, but as a club rule we have banned Carp being placed into keepnets unless in matches and even then any fish over 5lb is weighed in and returned. I like to use a keepnet but I am just as happy not using one, you can all ways take a photo, or even count the fish you catch and work out the average for the total weight.
