As the subject seems to have changed and the original subject 'gone of the boil' presumably you are talking about Permanganate of Potash, if so you might have a point, and why should it not work for lug and rag for that matter.

I learned about it from the local bowling green carers and I have tried it myself and it certainly did work but in my case I think I over did the quantity of powder to the water as we ended up with a blue lawn (a chemist should be able to advise on strengths).

It is quite a powerful dye so you have to be careful with it if you 'have a go'. It is also an excellent disinfectant too and excellent to rid a pond of algae again you have to be careful with the mix as the fish will end up in heaven.

Have fun

PETE

Re: getting worms at night

ahh, pottassium permagnate?,a purple/black crystal.
going off topic, we used to use this at work to fumigate poultry sheds, a purple/black crystal we'd mix an ounce or 2 with formalin and stand back & seal the building for a day or 2.
i never did work out which gas was produced but it was a damn good insecticide.

That's right GJ, and it had a million and one uses too, powerful stuff, think it went by another name as well "Condy's Crystals" (spellin')
