just finished a session on my local day ticket water what a day,i started by ledgering a maggot feeder with a helicopter rig which produced a 3lb bream and plenty of bites but after an hour i decided to set up a float rod 6lb main lina 3lb leader and maggot for the hook bait,all went well caught 6 roach with 3 around the 1lb mark then a small perch and 2 more roach .
it was at this point something took the bait and snapped my line instantly so set up again and had another 3 roach when my wifes line was snapped in the same way ,so set my clutch and 20 mins later the line starts sreaming off the reel remember it was only a 3lb leader with single maggot so i thaught i had a big tench as one was caught in the next peg earlier in the day that was just over 5lb ,anyway it felt like i was trying to reel in a bag of cement and played it for 20mins before it broke the surface and revealed itself to be a big mirror of around 17lb another 10 mins and it was on the bank thanks to the angler next to me who had a bigger landing net than i brought i still cant beleive i caught a 17lb mirror on 3lb line and a match rod!
