Re: Perch lure

I like to use small silver or white, lures at this time of year, they resemble the prey fish that perch are feeding on. A red flash on the hook is a good tip too.
The best ever, for me and now sadly lost. Was a home made spoo, literally from a spoon, combined with split rings and swivels, plus some red turkey feathers on the tail.
Worked well, til I lost it. Damn shame that.

Re: Perch lure

I keep planning to make more tackle, I have a nice pile of seasoned lime wood. Plus balsa for float making.

Re: Perch lure

Perhaps there should be section here on the forum, where people can swap ideas/tips/plans.

Re: Perch lure

Perhaps a section on tackle making, then sub sections on fly tying, rod building, floats, lures. I don't think we need to worry about spinning strands of horse tail to make our own lines tho.
Back to perch lures, I think whilst a lure must appeal to the fishes instinct to strike at a lure as it passes, some consideration must be given to the natural food sources in the lake, ie are there an excess of silver fish?

Re: Perch lure

I agree with you on both arguments.
