| Re: maggots.. This post maybe a little late, But the best way to keep maggots is as follows, After you have purchased them from the tackle shop, riddle them of, clear any crap that has come with them and that includes any maize dust that the shop has put with them. Once you have riddle all the crap of clean you bait box so there is no trace of crap in the box, make it bone dry. Next thing is to put the clean maggots in the box. If you have a pint use a two-pint box and if you 2 pints use two pint boxes etc. next use clean fresh maize, this can be purchased from any health food shop. Add the maize to the maggots I tend to over the top and put a good handful in. Now if you have a bait fridge this can only done this way or life won't be worth living if you use the normal fridge because all the explaining won't work, leave the lid of the bait box and place in the middle shelf away from the freezer bit. The idea is to get the maggots to stop moving, but not freeze them once the maggot stops moving it does not eat its food reserve. I find that you can keep maggots like this for up month and they still can be used. But whatever you do don’t, get them wet or warm. When the lid is left on, it creates heat, heat creates ammonia and movement, and they start to eat the reserves and turn. Keeping them cold stops all that. If keeping them in the main fridge is bad idea I think you better of using a cool bag with ice packs. Hope this helps. __________________ Born to fish made to work |

| Re: maggots.. Covered in the fridge I always found, I wonder if anybody has tried to freeze them, the process would probably kill them, I think some grubs can survive in the frozen ground, give it a try, and at those prices just test 1/2 pint. I used to pay 70p for a pint and 35p for 1/2 (Happy Days). |
