| Roach Fishing Right lads, due to my lack of catching pike out at Loughgall Lake (Well, I get a few but not a great amount), I'm looking to give Roach fishing a go. My mate had a go at it last week and was getting bites left, right and centre. He was too intoxicated and the old reaction time had slowed down, so he never caugh any lol. Anyway, I want you brilliant people to show me a simple rig. Preferably using maggots and a float?? Thanks in advance |

| Re: Roach Fishing you need to start with light tackle 8lb line 4lb leader i like to use a number 44 float which takes two bb split shot to sink it and dust shot to sink your bait positioned eight inchs from hook attach a size 16/18 hook and fish one maggot at a time. |

| Re: Roach Fishing I second that, also ball in some groundbait and get a bit of loosefeed going to make sure the fish start compeating with each other, if you can do this then you should have a good days fishing, Where is it you are planning on fishing?, you can PM if you don't want to say openly, I know what's it's like over here at the moment with exploitation of fish stocks, so I don't blame you. | Re: Roach Fishing Id use 4lb main and 2lb hooklength size 16 hook or smaller. 1 or 2 maggots white work better. Fish 1/3 of the deph of water ur fishing. feed maggots little and often. Also try 1 grain of sweetcorn or bread flake for the bigger fish. |

| Re: Roach Fishing I would say 3/4 depth rather than 1/3 but maybe that's just my personal feelings, roach tend to be a bottom feeding fish, so fishing midwater or higher you will get plauged by rudd and perch. | Re: Roach Fishing Feed little and often, so the fish fight for the food, put a no 8 shot abut 8-10 inches from the hook to show bites on the drop. Good luck, sorry to say that in my experience, the better fish tend to feed in low light conditions. |

Just push it on to a wide gape 16 and fish mid depth with only 1 no 8 half way down . Feed 10 to 20 grains every minuit , it may take a while but when they come on it's action all the way . O ye them bites will speed ya mate up! ps. it brings in big roach!!! |

| Re: Roach Fishing yeh if your going for roach or perch the best time is usually early morning or late evening and ive also found that if you fish on the bottom you will get small roach but the shear number of them will make up for size i went on monday and had myself 16 in about three hours and watch for the dorsal fin on the perch and the gill plates theyr razor sharp |

| Re: Roach Fishing Yea agree with dave about the perch, watch the gill plate especially, it was only at the weekend that I was cut by one and the perch was only a few ounces. I would however disagree about small roach coming to ledgering, in my personal experience it has been the other way around, less bites but larger roach.
