Re: Roach Fishing

Stillwaters: I have caught most of my large Roach using a waggler using 3lb line and 2lb hooklengths with a size 18 or 16 hook (depending on the bait size) and fish just off the bottom near to rushes or weed beds or lillies.

Baits: The baits that have caught most of my larger Roach have been Breadflake, Casters or small lively redworms (not lobs), or red maggots.

NB Casters usually sort out the slightly better sized fish if you are catching loads of tiddlers on maggots.

Re: Roach Fishing

you are all getting very technical lol, i just throw on a float ( whichever is handiest ) , the smallest hook i can find and some bread. When i roach fish i pull out about 15-20 an hour. i throw the crusts of the bread in from time to time to keep the fish competeing. but apart from that you don't need to be an expert to catch roach lol.

Re: Roach Fishing

The best bait for roach i could suggest has to be sweetcorn and bread. They both work brilliant and never let me down.

Re: Roach Fishing

I was fishing for carp once and had a 14 pound line with a hair-rigged sweet corn flavoured boiley. What i thought was a small carp turned out when i landed it on the bank to be a 3 pound roach. So if your wanting to catch massive roach go with a boiley.

Re: Roach Fishing

The beauty of Roach fishing is that... They will always be there. More so now im the summer. When we go, it's impossible to not catch a roach. Buy a pint of maggots, and it doesnt matter what you do, you'll catch roach. (You'll have to cast into the water obviously...)

A normal float, which takes 3 or 4 number 4 shots... Evenly spread out, on 6lb line with a 2lb hooklength, should be good for roach, and the occasional perch. There are more complicated methods but "Simplicity is the art of design" or something like that.

Re: Roach Fishing

i was catching roach with line tied around a stick, just throwing it in and pulling it out lol ( obviously with hook and bait) ... that's simplicity lol

Re: Roach Fishing

use one piece of sweetcorn and a small float but make the float lay flat in the water, then the float will stand up and then go under. When it goes under reel in instead of striking.
