It the thought of actually getting caught with out that makes people buy .

The licence fee creates about £24 million per year for the ea

Which by the way the tories want to get their hands on

What about having a
National Rivers and Waterways Recreational Fisheries Authority that makes sure that all our waters are capable of giving top quality sport.
as the ea is a quango
Hi Nick,
I am all for a National rod licence, I just get annoyed when anglers gripe because they never see anyone checking licences when for every one person that checks licences it means less money to spend on the other valuable and important things that they do for our fish and fisheries.
If they had to pay for licence checkers everywhere as some people think they should then they would either need to dramatically increase the licence cost to pay for it or do less of the important projects they do in the interests of our fish and fisheries. Which is why I don't mind only having my licence checked only now and again.
I think they currently do a good job. perhaps they need to do a better job at making what they do known to more people.

Sharing the licence with the other water sports would probably dilute our angling needs even more I think, even more so if the head was a cannoeist & bird watcher who didn't really like fishing and only paid it lip service. Surely we need an organisation dedicated to Angling who will work towards protecting and improving rivers, lakes and their fish & other wildlife and not a general water sports organisation who's soul contribution to angling might be super clean but lifeless water.
