Re: Ask For Rod Licences?

I have only had my licence checked once.It was on a fishery near me on a saturday 2 years ago and the place was busy and out of 20+ anglers 6 didnt have a licence.3 lads were only about 16 years old and were nearly in tears when they were asked to show their licence.
I think fishery owners should be responsible for checking your licence before giving you a day ticket that way these lads would not have been caught out.
I wish i would have my licence checked a lot more cos sometimes i feel i am waisting my money buying 1 when it is very unlikley to be checked.

At Loughgall lake where i fish, if you're going for the day you have to show your licence then you pay your money.

It does seem to be the most sensible idea like

Re: Ask For Rod Licences?

Bin talking to EA of late, and i have just found out that they no longer have any dealings with re-stocking the waterways. so with the problems with the east europeans and comerants and now otters, what does the money we pay go into because once the fish have all been taken, people will stop fishing and then the EA won't have any money coming in. Come on EA start thinking about the future and not the money.

Re: Ask For Rod Licences?

Not sure about Yakers and canoists, but certainly boat owners pay for an annual licence. If a boat isn't displaying an up to date ticket the water authorities have the power to seize and sell the boat, and they do on a regular basis.

Re: Ask For Rod Licences?

I have been asked for mine about 20 times in the last 50 years but what would you prefer your money was spent on: Study & Improvement of fisheries & improvng spawning areas etc. or just for paying numpties to walk the bank all day checking licences???
Last year they stocked thousands of fish including thousands of 'blue dyed' Barbel into the Thames, Great Ouse and many other of our rivers in an attempt to find out there movements eg. where the immature Barbel go to spend their early years, when they seem to almost disappear until they reach a certain size.
This was only one of many projects that they spent our licence monies on last year.

I don't like the idea of replaceing it with a general licence for all river users such as canoeists, boaters, bird watchers etc. etc. as we would lose a lot of anglings leverage because the boaters and canoeists would have more sway on how our money is spent and angling needs may take far less importance.

I know what your saying GB ,but without these there would be no money to improve /stock etc as no one would buy one ,
It the thought of actually getting caught with out that makes people buy .

The licence fee creates about £24 million per year for the ea

Which by the way the tories want to get their hands on

What about having a
National Rivers and Waterways Recreational Fisheries Authority that makes sure that all our waters are capable of giving top quality sport.

the ea is a quango,

Last yr only 200 people were caught and convicted with out one
