| Re: can i keep any freshwater fish for the table??? having been a keen piker for over 15yrs i dont see why people dont eat the odd"jack" if they want to after all we use livebait eg roach rudd and all manner of other species as dead bait, so we cant claim the moral high ground, plus freshwater fish,so im told tastes like crap, so just go to tescos buy a nice fillet of something, then were all happy, tight lines all.... |

Pike fishing is like pulling in a bin bag. The bigger the Pike the more rubbish is in the bin bag. I have caught over 120 dfifferent species of fish in my 40 years of fishing and the only fish that comes close to being less sporting than the Pike is a Cod. |

| Re: can i keep any freshwater fish for the table??? if you catch pike in the depths of winter they are dour i will agree, but also if you play them on balanced tackle and not 3 3/1.5lb test curve rods and 50lb braid! now if you caught a 8lb tench on that gear would you be of the oppinion that they dont fight! give lure fishing a go in warmer months on light lure gear and a few small surface lures, even i would rather catch a 5lb jack then than a 20lb in december on deads, at the end of the day each to there own,we all get different things from fishing, its not only about the big one!! good luck all. |

| Re: can i keep any freshwater fish for the table??? i was piking yesterday using a light trout rod and a 3lb tc pike rod. I only had small jacks up to 7lb but they were givin their all, tail walking as well. summer pike fight harder than any other fish pound for poud i caught a 27lber during the winter and still got a pretty decent fight, no thrashing or leaping but just BIG long runs then it would stop, i'd give the rod a heave and off it would go again, i have a video on my cam phone il need to try an post it so you anti-pike fishers can see it lol |

| Re: can i keep any freshwater fish for the table??? Ive eaten carp, pike and eels. Carp=boney but tasted ok,pike the same and eel was ok too. No reason at all why you shouldnt eat the odd freshwater fish if you want to. |

IMHO To me would it not be better to go fishing and if you catch one or two, put it/them back so that others can go and catch them too ?. (Sport/Hobby) Just think of it this way how would you like to pay for a rod licence and a permit and go fishing for just say a few weeks and blank due to anglers taking them for the plate ?. Surely it would be a waste of time going fishing. |
