Re: help needed

Your best bet is to goto your local tackle shop and talk to them, they will be the best people to talk to. They should be full of good advice and they should steer you in the right direction.

Hope this helps, Regards Steve

Re: help needed

maybe another option is to go along to your nearest trout fishery and hire a rod from them for a day, most fisheries offer this service for begginers. also you should get plenty of advice and the rod will already be set up, sorted!
would be nothing worse than buying him all the gear and he doesnt enjoy it!
good luck

Yer, I would recommend Hiring a rod for the day.

If your son doesn't like it, then your wasting your money really. ( :

pmsl, still find this whole license thing amusing! guy walking down the street with his rod tube on his back "s'cuse me sir, you got a license to carry that"

you see us fortunate enough to be north of the border dont need to worry about that. guy walking down the street with a shotgun in his arms "s'cuse me sir, you got any spare change"

what next?

Ye just a quicky if you know anyone who's into fishing either in work or down the pub they've probably got an old spare going and some tackle for you to try out if they're a mate or even offer to take you out for the day...that's wot i would do if a mate asked.. just a thought

Re: help needed

Oh, argrimm, they have ways to catch you! I found out from personal experience. When my kid was about 5 years old, we went fishing with cane poles in a creek from a friend's yard. Not even on a dock - just standing in the yard. A Marine Police boat zoomed around the corner, pulled up close, and asked me if I had a license. His boat was 6 feet away and he used a megaphone, believe it or not. Of course, I didn't think one was necessary with a cane pole on private property. I was wrong - by $168.00.
