Re: Forum Smoothound meet 2007

Depends where you have it mate. In Sussex last year they turned up late May and disappeared early July. Last year was a poor year compared to previous years.

Re: Forum Smoothound meet 2007

Your not wrong about last year been a poor Smut year.
Having said that i had a few decent sessions down Warsash where ive never failed to catch smuts in June ,July.
So it has to be Warsash for me,never any weed, never rough, you can even lure fish for the sea trout when the tide is low.
Very very under rated venue, but dont tell anyone

Had good sessions at Selsey but it was a case of loads one night - none the next. In a couple of Selsey trips this year we had instances of the Tope taking baits. On one occasion some one had a small bite was reeling in then something took it on the way in - strips most of your line off and either breaks the line or lose it. One guy reeled in a bass of about a 1lb that had been bitten in half after a fish took it on the retrieve. Two years ago some Tope were actually landed to nearly 40lb. The Tope seem to arrive early July.

Re: Forum Smoothound meet 2007

like i say im ther but dont think selsey is an option!
the place is far too tempramental to make plans over!
i say if its a smutt meet, any meet it has to be
garanteed fishable! last year some where planning to
kick it in before everyone arrived! not good the planning was best part of a year! and some traveled long distances.
