Smut Meet Report No.1

Here's my report from the day:

Got a text from Kev (Baitmaster) at 5.50am to say he was near my house, so I invited him round for a coffee, he got there at 6.30am and watched me and my 3 year old preparing my seat box. Kev left at 7.10am and I got showered and loaded the car.

Picked Ollie up at 9am, off to pick up our fresh peelers and then to the Bill. Looked rough at the point, so we drove to West Beach - not so much weed but SW F5-6 in your mush. Text to Kev - he's had 2 rigs snap off at the point, we'll go over for a look - full of weed Decision made to go to East beach for a look.

East beach looked much better-very little weed and sheltered a bit from the wind. We got there at HT, set up and cast out. I fished one rod rag and another peeler. No bites for me, but Ollie got a wrasse

Me, Ollie and Kev didn't have much luck by the time the rest of the meet turned up and sadly it stayed that way for the rest our time there until 7.15pm, although I got a very small wrasse tail hooked for 1.5pts.

Despite the lack of fish, me and Ollie had a great day, meeting old friends and making new ones. So what if the conditions weren't right, having a beer and a chinwag made up for it! Nice to put some faces to names for sure!

Rob

Re: Smut Meet Report No.1

well i woke at 6am to find my son(ashley) already awake , (never like this on a school day )
after a quick sort out,+breakfast set off to meet ian(greenheart) and off we went to selsey collecting our crab order on the way.

checked out the bill when we arrived, and as rob said, it was hip deep in weed
didnt bother looking at west beach but went for a shuffti to the east which looked good.

met up with the others for a beer and a natter where ash talked me into a game of darts.
fortunately i got dragged away to the beach during the 3rd decideing leg which possibly saved me some embarassment (150 odd behind but i like to think i'd of beat him to the double out: icon_wink .)

on the beach ash wanted to chuck some feathers about, so with his rod set up off he went , while i sarted setting myself up and thinking about rigs/tactics only to be interupted by.... 'dad, i got one'.
he had caught a pollock which was measured and returned.
we had noted terns occasionally diveing at bait fish in the lea of a groyne , looks like they were under attack by the pollock.
by the time i had got my rod in the water he had got another, 2-0 he didn't gloat, much.

i told him i'd wipe his eye with a bloody great smoothy when darkness fell but it was not to be,
he joined me bait fishing ( and occasionally nodding off to sleep) but i didn't see a knock on either rod, just crabs stripping our bait.

congratulations to the winner , it was a tough match and 4 fish does you credit, and thanks to all, especially ian for organiseing it.
the only thing missing was the smoothies, never mind.

might go back down soon,
gord.
