Talking The Smutt Trophy 2006

Smutt Trophy 2006

Well here it is, The Smutt Trophy 2006. After searching for many hours, I was unfortunately unable to find one that that had a fish on it that looked like a Smoothound, However at great expense & hardship I have obtained this one. If you have a few beers, half close your eyes & squint at it, it doe’s look a bit like a Black Bream. Cricket fans amongst you may have also noticed that it is considerably larger than the Ashes Trophy that England & Australia get so excited about. Thus I feel placing this competition up amongst the great sporting events of the year. The FA cup, Davis Cup, & the Women’s mixed doubles at Wimbledon etc. Indeed the winner of this prestigious event will almost certainly be showered with offers of sponsorship & mobbed by autograph hunters for years to come.
Seriously though, although this is only a light-hearted event, I have, with a view to maintaining a modicum of order & decorum to the competition, written a few basic rules. (Please bear in mind that I have never organised a Sea Match before & as such, these are only provisional. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions to improve on or amend these, or even as to whether they are actually necessary, then please let me know.)

Smutt Trophy 2006 Rules.

1. This is to be a catch & release competition. Only fish above the legal size limit may kept if for the pot. All others to be measured & released unharmed.

2. The Trophy will be awarded to the person catching the largest Smoothound or largest combined length of Smoothound/s. In the event of no Smoothounds being caught. The Trophy will be awarded to the person catching the largest combined length of other fish species.

3. All fish are to be measured in Centimetres (Please bring a tape measure if you have one available. I do have a limited number of paper tape measures available for those who do not have one. However the durability of these when wet is somewhat questionable!!!) You will also require a pen to record catches.

4. If it is practicable, all fish caught, will be witnessed by the competitor fishing next to you. This will depend on how crowded the venue is on the day.

5. Competition start & finish times will be decided on the day.

6. To keep things simple Mackerel will not count. All Dogfish & Silver Eels will count as 50cm each.

7. A maximum of two rods may be fished by the competitor at any one time. A maximum of three hooks may be used on each. However you may feather for mackerel & Launce etc for bait at the same time provided it doe’s not interfere with other competitors.

8. The provisional venue is to be the West Sands beach, Selsey, West Sussex. This will depend upon the prevailing weather, wind & tide conditions on the day, as other local beaches may be more sheltered & better suited.

9. All litter to be disposed of responsibly.

10. As we will probably be fishing close to & parking in a caravan site, all noise& disturbance should be kept to a minimum.

Looking forward to meeting you all on the day.
Ian (Greenheart.)

Re: The Smutt Trophy 2006

Cracking work mate your making this meet into a real cracking attraction to more anglers on the forum! didn't know we were having a friendly comp though but its a great idea!! rules all seam to make sense to me and if you need any help don't hesitate to give me a shout!!

as for fishing in front of the night club? i cant really see we will be doing that as i think its gonna be a busy one so i would of thought we were better off going to the far end of the car park and walking west to find a nice open beach to hold us all!

all in all the 27th cant come quick enough for me!!

roll on........

Cheers

Ollie.
