2011 forum smutt meet Dates and times !

Right here it is , the 2011 www.fishingforum.info smutt meet details ,

venue , eastoke (hayling island)

date, saturday 18 th june

meet in the car park , for 6 pm ..........

Midnight high water and at 4.5 metres ..

Ok theres plenty of shops right behind the car park , chippy , pub all you need , i suggest we meet in the car park for 6 pm for the hellos and any last minute questions , those travelling distances can arrive any time and start fishing , theres really no set times just a friendly meet with the honour of www.fishingforum.info 2011 smutt meet winners title at stake ....

Mannings tackle and bait have now gone from hayling island , so the only tackle and bait shop on the island is paiges tackle , http://www.yell.com/b/Paige's+Fi...944/index.html , pre order bait early to avoid dissapointments ...

Now baits personally me id be using peeler crab for the hounds , but hardbacks and hermits will suffice , now you should only fish one rod at any time for the hounds , you can stick another out with rag /lug scratching or big maccy / squid baits for the bass , if the hound fishing gets too manic , then really you should only be targeting the hounds with one rod , and nothing else , a good carp sling will be required to weigh the hounds as im sure you will want to also a good tape measure (tailors tape measure) to mesure the hounds , id also suggest using a pulley rig with one good strong hook (not a pennel) , treat these fish with care well i think ive covered it all , when looking at the link to eastoke car park we will be walking to fish the groynes to the right , stay away from groynes 24 -25 as you will get weeded out eastoke is not really a weedy venue but we are fishing a big tide try to stick in pairs and dont leave your rods unattended if you get a smutt you will lose it ,also i really wouldnt bother wasting your crab baits untill after dark ill add the rules to this thread shortly , looking forward to seeing a few members there and especially a few good hounds

Smutt Trophy 2011 Rules:

1. This is to be a catch & release competition. Only fish above the legal size limit may kept if for the pot. All others to be measured & released unharmed.

2. The Trophy will be awarded to the person catching the largest Smoothound or largest combined length of Smoothound/s. In the event of no Smoothounds being caught. The Trophy will be awarded to the person catching the largest combined length of other fish species.

3. All fish are to be measured in Centimetres (Please bring a tape measure if you have one available) You will also require a pen & paper to record catches.

4. If it is practicable, all fish caught, will be witnessed by the competitor fishing next to you. This will depend on how crowded the venue is on the day.

5. Competition start & finish times will be decided on the day.

6. To keep things simple Mackerel will not count. All Dogfish & Silver Eels will count as 50cm each.

7. A maximum of two rods may be fished by the competitor at any one time. A maximum of three hooks may be used on each. However you may feather for mackerel & Launce etc for bait at the same time provided it doe’s not interfere with other competitors.

8. All litter to be disposed of responsibly.

9. Any noise & disturbance should be kept to a minimum.

10. The above rules should not be taken too seriously, as the main reason for the meet is to meet fellow Forum members & have a good social...

I would add though, that if you can't get any decent peeler crab for bait, that the late great Adrian Farley (Gremlin) used to swear by using small 10p peice sized hardback crabs.Plenty of these can be found by the Langstone bridge as you enter Hayling island on the A3023....

remember last year ?? i had about 500 crabs
Are you sure its heading right from the car park Lee ??

the dont use two rods had me in hysterics mate, 4 rods last time and it wouldnt have made a difference

Can`t wait for this one, got 2 people 100% coming with and a 3rd just waiting on his boss to give him some time off (all bar 1 are members on ere aka moleman, baitcaster and me bluesbro. The 3rd is my aussie mate who is undecided wether he can hack our climate to take up fishing as a full time sport lol)
