Re: Smutt Trophy 2009

You went to the right place this year but unfortunately hit the wrong day.....one bloke had 20 odd hounds a night or two after you guys went down there on the west beach.....and they had some the night before you lot aswell so you were just unlucky the hit the beach the wrong night.....Would have to say pagham or selsey is probably your best bet for em!

Re: Smutt Trophy 2009

Did we ever hit the wrong day
I reckon we need a venue with no groins that can produce smut but also produces other species,a very meet friendly venue is what we want.
Somewhere like the gillkicker end of stokes bay, easy parking, long sweeping bay, clean bottom ,not often a weedy venue and it can throw up smuts ,bass, rays and the usual pout dogs flatties
And it can fish at low water so you dont have to sit around for hours.

Re: Smutt Trophy 2009

Selsey ... no joking !

West Beach on its day is unbeatable .....

Only other options really are Pagham & maybe Hillhead - doubles come out of Hillhead but it is a trek from the car park or can be - better fishing is further along the beach ... Gillkicker is fefinatley worth a go as GW says ...

I say stick with Selsey ...

Hayling is okay for the 'smaller Smuts - up to 5lb and they do come in quite close so possibly worthwhile for the smaller casters to at least experience catching these beauties perhaps ?

If it's the smaller hounds in easy casting range you're after, then how about Seaton? (Yes, the one in Devon ). Loads of parking, you can fish almost out of the boot of your car, the smuts are fairly easy to catch (They must be if I can do it! ) and there's a cracking 'bab shop open till late. Ok, no monsters, but small fish is better than no fish isn't it?

Plus it'd be nice not to get "the look" from the FPO when you've been out all of Saturday and you sleep most of Sunday. It's fair to say that mine doesn't like that sort of thing too much. Well that's the message I got as I climbed into my bed in the garage on Sunday night anyway.
