Re: Smutt Trophy 2007 Rules.

Looking forward to this one....not that I will catch anything (never do ) but being part of it, in great company, make it worth while....for me anyway.

Great work on the rules Ian, well done!!

Re: Smutt Trophy 2007 Rules.

Just a silly question before I tie my rigs, when we count hooks do pennel rigs where the second hook is there to secure the bait count as 2 hooks or 1? or can I count that as 1 baited hook and a retainer????

I think rule No.7 is clear enough. 3 hooks maximum per rod. Please don't get too serious though guys, as this is mainly about having a bit of fun & hopefully meeting a few new faces. I should'nt really say it, but i've always considered that rules are for breaking. The only crime is getting caught.... LOL

Re: Smutt Trophy 2007 Rules.

Me break the rules!!!!! Never!

means I will just have to find some otherway of holding big baits on single hook.

might try whipping a small back spike onto the hook, I always seem to end up with an ungainly lump of bait covering the point of my hook otherwise.

Re: Smutt Trophy 2007 Rules.

I use Veals Varivas piggyback hooks, which is basically a hook with a spike on the back. I know Lazarus has had success making his own in the way you describe Mike. Worth giving it a try.
