Re: Smutt Trophy 2007 Rules.

Gents - update on local weather

Sat seems to be Sunny intervals/overcast, some light rain, 10-15mpsh SW winds. The night before is quite calm so conditions might be good for those B I G Smoothies !

Am hoping to fish this one with a mate, and hopefully get PlanktonBoy along, might not make the pub for the meet though, any chance someone can PM a mobile number, so i can find out where you are when i eventually arrive.

Cheers, Tony

seen some good smut reports for gosport side solent so hope they are on selsey side as well

Re: Smutt Trophy 2007 Rules.

Fellow smutt hunters
What bs line would you recommend using, as the article pointed to by maghouse said "you wont stop them with 20lb line & a poker"?
That's a bit unfortunate as I'm kind of attached to my 20lb almost as much as it is to my spools.
Never having fished overnight before - what's the difference legalwise between a very small tent, a fishing bivvy & a 45" umbrella?

cheers
Spahill

Hi Spahill,
20lb line is fine, the BS refers to a direct weight - you will never lift the fish direct (assuming you hit double figures ) As long as you 'play the fish you will be fine, I use 15lb and never had a problem - I have never had a 20lb fish but thats another story !
A small bivvy/tent on the beach by your rods is fine .... a tent in the field behind might be a problem - look at the carp boys and thier luxury detached 3 storey with colour TV bivvys ......

Re: Smutt Trophy 2007 Rules.

dont worry about the line spahill, i used to use 15 and some times even 12 without a problem, you just have to play the fish, like maghouse said
