Talking to Allan in Allans marine the other day and he was saying
the smuts have thinned from the western solent marks as expected and have been showing more to the east. If the weather and the weed are ok for you i reckon you ll get a few good fish.

well looking at the list of possible ickle fishes = Smoothounds, Bass, Bream, Mackerel, Gurnards, Small Brill, Turbot & Rays.
ok i think i have tactics sussed for the smuts=crab, crab and more crab on big hooks, this should also suit the bass(memo to self, book crabs monday!!!)
makiie are stupid and go for anything,
gurnard =rag on long bottom flowy type trace1 or 1/0
bream small hooks 4 or 2+ rag and squid
ray i guess same as arround here = 2/0 pennel +sandeel or makkie baits long traces
but what tactics for brill and turbot

if got all stupidly wrong for area please let us know

smutts cought all along south coast at the moment (atleast timing right this year) 17lb er off worthing peir the other day!

I:E how its fishing for the big fish /weed etc
long range weather = bring a coat(well theres a change)

no expert but longish snoods and lightly hooked mackerel strip or sandeel have worked for me, but not that often
