| Re: Are Liverpool FC heading in The Right Direction...? Now, I'm generally not the kind of bloke to say I told you so, but I simply can't resist this. Can I draw your attention to this post Paul. Old post5 defeats on the trot (followed by a win against the Albion to kick start your season) and I still said you'd win the playoffs. In fact, I think you still might get auto... It's too close to call at the moment. To quote some balding old striker, "It's a funny old game" and things have a habit of turning around quite quickly, so I'm keeping stum in this particular debate. Also, I'm Sorry Biggun, but this made me smile. Quote:
For example in 91/92, whilst Liverpool marched towards another FA cup win, Albion, having been relegated the previous season, magnificently failed to even make the play offs in the old 3rd division. Mr Bobby Gould "managed" us in a season which included home defeats to the likes of Hartlepool, Swansea and Leyton Orient. Now, far be it from me to belittle these clubs, but to me this qualifies as proper "bad times" not simply failing to win a cup. It's all relative mate. I'd give my right arm for some of Liverpool's bad times! Edit: Please understand that I'm on about bad times in a purely footballing sense. I realise that LFC have been through Hillsbough and Heysel, and believe me I felt just as bad watching those events as anybody. I'm just talking about the on pitch bad times here. __________________ Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. | Re: Are Liverpool FC heading in The Right Direction...? Hey I'm Scottish and a Rangers fan - our bad times are similar to Liverpool's bad times, but our good times don't even compare..... When I was a kid in the late 70's & early 80's everyone supported an English team and for nearly everyone this was Liverpool. There were 2 reasons for this: 1) They were by far the best team in the world at the time 2) All their best players were Scots As far as having English player in your team........ why bother? While current rules don't limit foreigners, there's no point in having English (or Scottish, Welsh etc) players in the team because they are not as good and more expensive. You only have to look at the performance of British national teams in International competitions over the last 40 years to recognise that we collectively (Scotland, England, NI, Wales) have done nothing. English football and especially the premiership should think itself lucky to have the amount of money bouncing around that has allowed it to attract and keep players like Cantona, Henry, Ginola, Bergkamp, Veira, Klinsman, Van Hoidonk, Ljungberg, Pires, Di Canio, Schmiekel, Van Nistelroy.......... Im the last 15-20 years England has produced how many world class players, Paul Gascoigne, Tony Adams, Beckham, Lineker? By the way, this is not anti-English - I think the Premiership is fantastic, but only so because of the foreigners, so I wouldn't be so quick to kick em out of your team...............! __________________ ><((((((*> ><((((((*> ><((((((*> trailer cleaning |

Gotta say though, I not over keen on the Premiership itself. When we first got promoted I was really looking forwards to playing at Highbury, Anfield, Old trafford, but the amount of money that the Premiership has given these clubs means that we'll NEVER be able to compete with most of them, so we end up getting thrashed all the time and that's just no fun. That money is about to get even more silly next year as well. I reckon that if your not in the prem next season, well you might as well just forget it. There'll be the prem teams, those that bounce back and forth but never get established, and everybody else. Also, the cost of the tickets and the loss of the traraces has killed the atmosphere at grounds. I honestly believe you get more passion and atmosphere at clubs in the football league than you do in the Prem, even with their massive crowds. Give me a smaller ground, with non corporate fans that actually care about the result anyday. That said, I'll be gutted if we don't go up this year! ![]() __________________ Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. | Re: Are Liverpool FC heading in The Right Direction...? dont get me wrong, i think the foreigners bring flare and skill to teams, and i love watching barca and even arsenal (after hammering us twice with there kids) i just dont like to see NO english/british players in the team. i feel our national teams have suffered cos very few english players get to play at a high standard like the premiership __________________ http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...xt80382370.gif |
