Was having this discussion in the pub on Sat. Is this really the case? Didn't we have five teams in the CL this year cause Liverpool won it and the rules got changed as they finished 5th?

Everton were still allowed to take part weren't they and they finished 4th(Even if they did crash out, and then get dumped out of the UEFA as well.)

Rich that was a one off as it was the first time the defending chapions had not finished in their countries alloted places and Uefa had to let the champions defend their title. The rule change as far as I can remember states that if the champions finish outside their countries allocation then the last placed team in that allocation has to give way to the defending champions (if that makes sense). Unless anyone knows different?
