salt water flyfishing disasters!

I tryed fishing the down and was just about to fish the up when disaster struck, decided to give it a night session at low water on the local river, armed with my chest waders, at low you can walk half way across the river without even getting wet then wade a little bit further to get better advantage of getting the fly in the hotspot, halfway through the session which coincided with slack water i decided to have a change of fly, i took my bag off and placed it where i was standing, changed my fly and as i was fishing a fry popped out of the water as if he was being chased, covering the area with the fly to no avail, so engrossed the tide had changed direction and about £300 worth of fly tackle was gathering pace going up stream ,
now it really isn't advisable to go swimming after your tackle bag in waders, but when you invisage all the time and effort into all the fly's I had hand tied, reels, different fly lines...etc etc...,sh*t i'm going in..waders rod everything had to come with me.....well i got my tackle bag back without drama and surprisingly the waters quite warm, I was dreading getting a tug from the old bill on the way home, driving in my underpants!

Re: salt water flyfishing disasters!

Sounds like u are having arun of bad luck
things can only get better.
Travel light small box of flys, leader, and spare line all in pockets.
Dont forget your head torch.
No need to wade were i am only got to cast at the most 6 yards
some of the bass are with in a foot of the bank, i were my chest waders
so i can sit down and try and keep clean.
CANT wait for your next report, im out saturday night report back sunday.

Re: salt water flyfishing disasters!

YAHOOOOOOOOOO, SUCCESS TONIGHT FLYMAN, FIRST BASS ON A FLY AND........WAIT FOR IT A SECOND! TWO BASS IN ONE SESS, CAN'T BELIEVE IT, FIRST ONE WAS A DECENT SIZE THE OTHER WAS TINY, BOTH RETURNED BUT WHAT FUN .
FIRST BASS TOOK ON THE START OF A SLOW RETRIEVE, THE SMALLER BASS TOOK IT ON THE DROP PRACTICALLY AS SOON AS IT HIT THE WATER, I,VE GOT A SMILE THE SIZE OF A CHESIRE CAT,.

AFTER A FURTHER HOUR AND HALF INTO DARKNESS IT JUST DIDN,T HAPPEN FOR ME. SO I WONDER UNLIKE YOUR RIVER ITS NOT GONNA FISH AT NIGHT, BUT I HAVENT DONE ENOUGH TO PROVE THAT YET, SO WATCH THIS SPACE, WHY IS IT WHEN YOU DONT TAKE YOUR CAMERA SOMETHING HAPPENS!

THE TIDE EBBING AT SUCH A LICK ITS A WONDER THEY HAVE THE PACE TO TAKE, WHAT A RESULT, CHEERS.

Re: salt water flyfishing disasters!

About bloody time well done,
,thats the reason i fish small tides water goes out a lot slower
and the fish dont push up river to far.
B ut no 2 rivers are a like when trout or bass fishing, just keep trying
till u find the right method and time of tide.
What fly done the trick?

Re: salt water flyfishing disasters!

This is the fly, flyman, its a bit damaged now. The floor of the river is covered in mussels so receives abit of a battering!
Cannot seem to find these eyes anywhere, do you have a source, bought some from tackle shop rediculously expensive.....I,m sure the kids and wife are becoming suspicious, all the eyes are going missing off toys, I blame the dog.
Well having another go tonight, won,t catch anything taking camera watch this space you never know?
