what fly line

Hi guys,
I need a recommendation for what fly line to get for saltwater sea bass fishing.I plan to use a 9ft 7wt fast action pack rod i have.Any help would be greatly appreciated. The rod will handle an 8wt line with ease as well.I. will be fishing around Portland area and elsewhere on the Dorset coastline. Cheers DJ.

Thumbs up Re: what fly line

Orvis do a good range of saltwater lines. www.orvis.co.uk/fishingI'm a big fan of their wonderlines, although i've never used a sea specific one. I'd be inclined to use an old freshwater line & I imagine saltwater conditions will soon take their toll. You also say you will be using a #7 rated rod. I'm not sure that will be heavy enough in a good sea breeze. I'd be inclined to use a #9 rated outfit. Good luck.

Re: what fly line

I would use the #7 rod with #8 line for the time being, keep to smaller less wind resistant flies that the line can carry easily . In the fullness of time buy the #9 weight with maybe a #10 line , this will double for pike and zander too .

Re: what fly line

The shape of your fly fishing line is also important when you’re looking to make a purchase. There are two basic shapes to fly fishing line: a double-taper line, which starts out at one diameter, increases along the length of the line, then decreases again at a set length, and a weight-forward line, which has a larger diameter at the lead end. If you plan to do fishing with a long cast, chances are you’ll want a weight forward-line, while the double-taper is better for the motions of roll-casting.
