Dyneema tying thread?

well for my saltwater fly tying, i was going to get mono, but the shop is out of stock. so they said they'll give me dyneema tying thread ( which is used for bullet proof vests! ) has anyone used this stuff, because ive been wanted a single strand tying thread like mono. instead of a floss like tying thread.

I would use proper fly-tying thread Dan as it's fine diameter will give you a neater tying. Just use plenty of varnish or superglue to hold it together when wet.

i tend not to use freshwater tying thread, because its not saltwater resistant. dyneema is 10 times stronger than steel and is perfect for saltwater fly's.

Hi mate,

I have tied hundreds if not thousands of saltwater flies. Use Danvilles Mono as it allows the colours to show through from underneath and is as strong as steel.

Make sure you use clear epoxy as a head cement so it soaks into the tyings.

If you want to buy it mail order go to Lathkill as they stock a vast array of materials, threads eyes too much to list here, and their service is excellent.

Also, if you want to find some inspiration try googling for Popflies by Bob Popovitz......the most brilliant book for saltwater flies.
