If you want to give it a go, Blagdon and Chew Valley are my home waters.
I have electric engine rods, reels etc plus 1,000's of flies. Boat costs £23.50 for all day. Suggest Blagdon as a good water to start on.
I can only do weekends so if you'r up for it let me know. There's a good pub close to the lake . I am a Salmon & Trout Association qualified casting and fishing instructor so will be able to teach... no charge of course!

Cheers
Shaun

Talking Re: Fly Fishing anyone catching

i fished the Benson & Hedges comp about 5 years ago on Chew Valley, very windy, big waves, big fish, too big a strike, went over the back of the boat in 14 feet of water.

Lessons learnt
Wear a life jacket at all times, all RAF blokes laugh at you when you fall in, don't lean out of a boat in a force 8!

Cheers

Re: Fly Fishing anyone catching

What's the fishing like at Blagdon and Chew then? I work in Bristol so not to far for me but have really only ever fly fished rivers. Just bought a new rod and reel mainly to try for bass on the fly and other salt water fish and it's an 7/8 wt combo so might be better suited to still water. Having big problems with my casting though, I reckon the reel is dodgy myself but there is a chance my casting isn't good enough for the amount of line I was trying to cast!
