Woke up at about 8.30 & it was pouring down with rain. Things did'nt look promising for my meet with Pingu (Dave) to give him a few fly fishing lessons. A new forum member, Lazarus (Richard) had also said he was going to join us. Checked the forecast & it said that it would brighten up by lunchtime. I was'nt convinced!!! Anyway Pingu turned up at my place at about 10.30 & we set off for Worton, arriving at just after 11am. Another car pulled into the carpark at about the same time & the driver got out & introduced himself as Richard aka Lazarus. (Nice meeting you mate) Set up the rods, went into the fishing lodge & purchased a 2 fish ticket each. I showed Richard where the hotspots on one of the two lakes were (Sorry Richard, they usually fish well, Honest!!! ) & then took Dave to a quite part of the lakes for some casting lessons. Unusually for a weekday, the lakes were very busy, but we found a quite spot & Dave had a go at casting a flyline. By now the rain had stopped & the sun was comming out, along with a very stiff breeze. Not ideal conditions for casting lessons. However Dave perservered & I left him to practice & went for a walk around the lake to see if I could find any trout. I had bought some small Goldhead Pheasant Tail nymphs in the lodge & tied one on. ![]() Third cast & I was into a trout. Maybe this was going to be too good. I only had a two fish ticket & I wanted to fish for a while longer. So I put on my polaroid glasses & took a walk around the lake to try & spot some larger fish. Went back down to the hotspot where I had left Richard to find that he had not even had a pull. Had a go myself with the same result, so I moved back up to where Dave was fishing. There were now a few other people fishing this end of the lake & a few fish were being caught. Before long we started to get fish & Dave had his first taste of how a Rainbow Trout fights. Not long afterwards, Richard moved up to our end of the lake, but he had still not had a bite. So I gave him one of the Goldheads that I had obtained from the lodge & soon he was into a fish too. After the poor start, it had turned out to be a really nice day. Dave had caught his first Rainbow Trout on the fly. We both had our limits. Best fish 3lb 14oz & i'd helped Dave get some species hunt points ( Oop's wrong team!!! Sorry Geejayy)It was also nice to meet Lazarus who had caught a nice fish too. Welcome to the Forum Richard. Have to try some of your local waters next time. To round things off, Dave & I stopped at a local pub on the way home for a nice pint of Moles real ale __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org

Re: Mill Farm Worton 15/09/06 i told him on skype that goldhead killer bugs and goldhead hare ears work well as they get down in the layers quicker and gold or silver works well in sunny conditions but i was only guessing last night lol tightlines kevin ![]()

Re: Mill Farm Worton 15/09/06 Ian's too generous to point out that after two to two and a half hours of flogging the water with an assortment of nymphs I tied myself I had my fish on the first cast with the fly he gave me. (Sorry about leaving it up the tree Ian!) After several days of blanking from the beach it was good to see a fish again. It was especially good to catch on a nice day in good company. Thanks Ian, thanks Dave. Back to blanking from the shore again next week. Lazarous
