Forgot to mention that Pingu hooked & nearly landed a large Crayfish on the fly. Guess it makes a change from Spider Crabs

Re: Mill Farm Worton 15/09/06

Hi guys

was a great day
managed to bundle kids out too school early and dive like a nutter through the rain to get to Ians
then a lovely drive past the white horse hill to the fishery where we met richard

Ian then patiently took me asside and showed me how to cast, then i tried, and tried, and tried, (seems funny this casting string with no resistance from 4 -6 ounce lead )
I probably looked more like someone being attacked by a hord of warps than a fly fisherman

then ian had a couple of quick casts on opposite pond and was straight in, and kindly let me then take over and play fish, must agree the feel through these rods connected straight through to the fish is great

than he left me to carry on as he went stalking

well i was hitting a cast ok(ish) about 1 out of 5 and really stuggling with the wind when ian came back, and within 2 or 3 casts again he was into a fish, this one he lost in bushes then soon after was in again, and landed that one

well by now my casting was abismal , so we agreed to move stightly as the area i was trying had been thrashed by my line more thoroughly than basil fawlty's austin 1100

and ian turned into a real star and did the casting out for me(saved him laughing too much as well), as only a suicidal fish no more than 10ft from the bank would have got near my casts now

after what seemed an age i at long last hooked into a fish, i can honestly say this was a real buzz and enjoyed it thouroughly

ian eventually finished off the bag limit (which again he allowed me to play in)
then off for a fantastic pint(wish i could have stayed there) before a nightmare 3 hour journey home then a wedding party where I stayed sober , but gained massive brownie points for tonight and tommorrow

not sure you could call me a fly fisherman, but did enjoy the day
think teachers card would say could do better must try harder
it really is a skill

MASSIVE thanks to Ian and Richard
!; for allowing me to come along
2: for not laughing too much
3: for a great day out

dave

Sounds like you all had a great day.

When and where is the next trip?

Greenheart have you fished Sutton Bingham lately, if so, how is it fishing?

Suttton Bingham is lower than i've ever seen it before. Looks like you could almost wade across it. Spoke to the Ranger last week & it was'nt fishing too well. However with this bit of rain to freshen things up a bit, I would think the fish would be feeding again. Also with the water being so low I would imagine that the shoals of fish would be a lot more concentrated Not sure when i'm fly fishing again. Probably Sea fishing next & after more species hunt points.....

Oh, and BTW, Dave forgot to bring the pies on Saturday night as well.... Gutted.
