Re: cwm-hedd 1/4/06

hi chaps

fished cwm-hedd today on 4 hour catch and release, first cast had a take but lost fish, wind got up making dasting difficult but carried on,only saw 2 fish caught rainbows about 4lb. used every tactic i know ie floating line, sinking and intermediate but got no interest whatsoever, but to be fair to gwyn the owner he serves an excellent breakfast. so its back home now to wait for other forum users posts, hope you had better luck than me.

ps any body get out in boats today?

Re: cwm-hedd 1/4/06

Had the same kind of problems at Sutton Bingham on Monday. Horrendous wind & no pattern as to what the fish were taking. In the end my mate & I got four fish. some on black buzzers & floating line with a long leader & some on HI-D line with a montana nymph. I think it's still a bit cold. Going to try the trout lakes at Revels fishery in Dorset next Saturday. Just hope it's warmer.

Re: cwm-hedd 1/4/06

hi greenheart
buzzers usually fish well here i just think it was one of those days.i dont understand about it being too cold as in december fished here with daddies and returned 9 rainbows and a blue trout. the hi-d line is that a fast sinking line.

Talking Re: cwm-hedd 1/4/06

Hi Plugger, I think it depends on how constant the water temp has been. I've always found that a cold wind, especially east, can put the fish down for a while. It helps to locate the warm water areas of the lake, usually on the leeward side. The problem is that most of the natural food gets blown to the windward side, so the fish could be responding to either. On a small water, this is not a problem, as you can cover most of it & find the fish. But on a large water such as Chew or Rutland, it can be very difficult & time consuming to find the right area. If this has confused you as much as it has me, my best advise is, if in doubt, ask the locals.
