| Sutton Bingham 27-03-06 Report Got up monday morning & looked out the bedroom window. I had been listening to anything that was'nt nailed down, blowing around the garden & the rain rattling on the window all night so I knew what to expect. I was'nt dissapointed. A howling gale & torrential rain still very much in progress .I expected my mate Pete to call any second & say that maybe it was'nt ideal fishing weather. But he did'nt!! I thought, well i'm not going to be the one to wimp out. So I got up & loaded the car. Shrek had told me that he was unable to make it due to recent surgery (Appendix, but he's on the mend) Drove over to Petes. Thought you might have called it off sez Pete. Not me mate sez I, I'm no fairweather fisherman. I secretly hoped that Pete would suggest calling it off, but he did,nt want to be first to chicken out either. Must be mad said Vera, petes wife. So just to confirm what she said, we loaded his gear & off we went down the A303 windscreen wipers going full speed. Got to the reservoir at about 10.30 to discover only one other lunatic trying to fish & a full scale hurricane blowing down the lake. Pulled on the wet weather gear & headed off into the storm PETE Headed for the only part of the lake that would offer a tiny bit of shelter, in the lee of some trees & tied on a leaded montanna lure & set about trying to cast into the wind. For the first 2 hours, nothing. Then just as I was getting close to suggesting that we go home, Bang, my rod bent into a nice trout. Played it to the net, where it promptly spat the hook out. Fished for about another hour & hooked another fish. This time I landed it. A nice Rainbow that weighed about 2.5lb. Five minutes later Pete hooked a nice fish & played it to the net. Just as he was about to net it, CRACK, His £400 Sage rod snapped in half The good news was that ne still managed to land the fish. Another similar size Rainbow. This being the first time that Pete had come without a spare rod, he had to borrow my favourite Orvis one & he then had the cheek to say that he prefered his Sage. Anyway the rain eventually stopped, the sun came out & the wind dropped slightly. We both fished on until about 6.30pm & had one more fish each. Best fish 2lb 14oz caught on a Black Buzzer Total catch 4 fish. By then we had most definately had enough & headed off to the pub to recover. __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org |
