| Flying For Peacock Bass I reached our local Singapore reservoir at about 9am. This reservoir is known for it's peacock bass population. It was my first fly fishing trip with a friend. We reached our spot at about 9.15am. We spotted a few baby Peacocks and casted our micro-charlies at them. My friend was lucky and hooked on a palm sized one. When we were about to move on to our next spot, i was trolling my fly in the water when i saw a golden flash. I gave it a hard strike and my first fish on fly was hooked on. I didn't really know how to fight fish on a fly rod but i eventually learnt and managed to bring this nice specimen up. It was a good 3min fight on my 5wt rod and reel. Not bad for a first fish on fly eh? ![]() My friend spotted another Peacock and casted his charlie at it. Strip, strip... ... YES!!! fish on. He managed to bring it up shortly after on his 7wt. It was about the same size as the one i had previously caught. ![]() I also caught another beautiful specimen but it was just a baby but i just HAD to take a picture of it. ![]() We eventually moved on to our next spot. I spotted a breeding pair and another solo peacock. I didn't want to disturb the breeding pair as it would take weeks for them to reproduce again. I casted to the solo Peacock but the mother peacock just couldn't resist the tempting charlie. It literally pounced on the fly once it dropped in the water. And the fight was on. I brought it up in about 5min. It was a really hard fighter. ![]() |

| Nice fish lads, have to take my fly gear next time I travel east. I was out in Thailand last year feeding some small fish on bits of rice. They were being chased by much bigger fish. Wished I had a rod then. ![]() __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org |
