Question Is it very diificult ?

Hello folks!
Can anyone tell me if a fishing trip is really difficult in UK for foreigners ? I am a regular visiter to Fly Fishing Festa in Japan and am always asked why it's so complicated planning a fishing trip to UK (as I worked for British Embassy for a long time). I always could not answer and we will soon have 2005 FFF! (oh, dear....)

Hi Ponta,

Fly fishing in the UK is not that difficult really. There are day ticket waters that you can fish plus you can choose from Lake, Reservoir, River or Stream.

What you do need is as licence to fish which you can purchase from any Post Office.

Also you need a good fishing guide

If you want any more help just let me know. During the 2000 Worls Fly fishing Championships I met 2 ladies from Japan who enjoyed their fishing here in Bristol. I gave them some fishing lessons on our reservoir. I also helped them with their fly selection.

Re: Is it very diificult ?

Cant really see why it would be difficult,i think most of the fisheries here you can just purchase day tickets to fish. You need a license from the Post office and there are loads of those in most towns here.Apart from getting the tackle here and yourself,i`d think its relativly stress free.....But i supose flying hsalf way around the world to go Fly fishing,is a long stressful journey.......

Thanks Old Smoothy,

You must be a good guide. I would ask your advice when I make a fishing trip in UK! (you have to be strong and patient because I am hopeless)

Re: Is it very diificult ?

Thanks Mike,

I understand and appreciate your and Old Smoothy's advices. If it's not too complicated, I would be able to make a plan in near future. Good!

People worry too much because we can't make a long holiday (if one can make a week off, he is very lucky). Some went to UK and came back with nothing to do as they did not understand the system etc. It might mainly because of our language problem!

I don't think you will have a problem, if you speak English as well as you write.
Many MANY years ago when I was in Japan, I saw many signs in English. You will find it difficult to see any signs in Japanese.
However, I know English is compulsory in Japanese schools. Sometimes pronunciation can be difficult. If you can't make yourself understood, writing it on paper may help. (I think) the same applies to a Japanese or English speaking person trying to communicate in English.
Good Luck and have fun

Arigato Ponta,
Its been too many years. I should be fluent by now, with just enough
american accent for the girls. Unfortunately this is not the case.
Gambatte onajiku (?)
