well that 1 in the pic on the forum pic section was caught like that
there were 2 that size next to each other (and lots of littler 1s ranging from 6inces to that size i just went for the biggest) and i loobed a worm out infront of them and they both went for it
hooked that 1 and all the other fish disapeared and the next day they were back again and i caught a little 1 and then they werent there again

Fly fishing is certainly fun. It was the first type of fishing I ever tried when I was about 12 (bloody hell, that's nearly 20 years ago now!!!). I certainly enjoyed it more than pulling perch out of the local canal. Used to fish the River Usk which is a very good trout and salmon river. Never fished for salmon though as the permit was too expensive. The fight a 1lb trout can put up on light weight fly gear is excellent. Haven't fly fished for years but dug my old gear out a few weeks back for saltwater fly fishing only to find it is all knackered so bought a new 9' 6" 7 - 8 weight rod with a suitable large arbour fly reel, backing, floating line and leader loops all for less than £40. I intend giving it a bashing in the sea for bass but may get a trout permit for the Usk next season too. Once you have your initial kit it is cheaper than sea fishing and unless you are fishing very overgrown streams you shouldn't lose much gear. For the record I'd suggest catch and release on wild browns unless fishing catch and kill fisheries although this will normally be for Rainbow. The season on rivers is usually March to October and there are generally restrictions preventing fishing after sunset. Don't know about worming for trout being successful, never caught one when I tried! I think worming may be restricted to prevent coarse fish being caught out of season. Looking forward to my first bass on the fly now :)
