Re: Good if you can do it

So no luck then Paul, it's always like that when you try a new method etc. It costs you a few quid at the start getting all the gear, then it takes time and a few quid more as you lose your gear etc. But then you get more savvy and then you start catching, so don't lose heart. I've got a fly rod but no reel, so when I get one I'll come down and lose some gear with you, I'm wizard at catching branches lol. Maybe a fly fisherman might be up for coming out with us and giving us the all-valuable starter tips!!!!!!!

Re: Good if you can do it

Hello mate, good job you didn't come down after all. The guy at the tackle shop is a fly fisherman so I'l go and pick his brains today. Maybe I'll have to buy a fly rod and reel, but with the backing and line and other gear, it gets expensive. I'll see what they can do for me.

Geoff, who you will meet on the 30th is a very good fly fisherman, so he'll have a fair bit of knowledge to impart.

I would have done better scooping the buggers out with a landing net - not the point though is it...

Re: Good if you can do it

You're not joking, I aint that good....

Been out to order some fly gear today, new rod, reel and line. I'll use it for saltwater fly fishing mostly. Andyg and I are going to become the forum guru's...

BTW, Andy doesn't know about this yet.

Purchased as small bubble float and some silicon fly dressing as well, so will give that a go with the spinning gear later.

Re: Good if you can do it

god luck
i cant stand it when fish arent biting
i saw acouple of larger barble (7-8lb+) and could drop a worm right in front of them and dangle it about and stuff and they werent interested and all i got was a little fish just over 1 inch long cause it got hooked reeling in

Re: Good if you can do it

The only fish i have caught when being able to see them is golden grey mullet in the shallow water at low tide off my local pier! used to go down there with a handfull of red rag and chace them round the pier looking for the ones with there heads down! had a few doing this but they dont hang around long and thats if they even show up in the first place!!
