some tips please

at the week end i am going fishing at a lake in hants and as i have only been flies fishing a couple of times a few tips would be helpful please.

i know how to tie hooks and line etc but i have no idea of line types or flies to use. i have a various selection of flies that i got with the basic starter pack. im not sure wot ones they reli are but i do have a nymph that i used when fishing from last summer. i can cast okish. but if anybody has any knowedge of hampshire lakes or tactics it would be very helpful.
