Re: Fly Fishing for Pike.

Hi Ripple,

When i was a youngster my "clever" old man decided to ;whilst on a small rowing boat, cast a fly hook(with a fly rod) with a hand compressed piece of bread on it. within 5 mins he was battling not only to stop the rod snapping, but also to stop the boat being dragged around the Rugeley Power Station lake in circles. To the embarrassment of his friends watching on the bank and the amusement of many unknown folk, he managed to pull in a large carp after a great deal of sweat and stress.

I think you should try fishing for Pike!

Had a similar experiance on Loch Oiche, Scottish Highlands in 1985 when a large pike I hooked on the deadbait dragged my boat across the Loch much to the amusment of onlookers on the bank !

Dont think the image is "Me" but the poster above !

And yes, it is the Loch Oich above FW inbetween Loch Lochy and Loch Ness !
A nice "wee" Loch about two miles in length.

Re: Fly Fishing for Pike.

Didn't realise but there's over 31,000 Lochs and Lochans in Scotland alone, pretty amazing. Do you fish mostly up there? I looked on google maps and found hundreds of lochs with no accessing roads or paths. Are there many which are untouched? Or do most lochs get fished? truly beautiful part of the country

Re: Fly Fishing for Pike.

All true, many many unfished streches of water, in particular the small Lochans all due to the fact much of Scotland is unpopulated and they are difficult if not almost impossible to reach ! Couple that with the weather and the Midges and you can see why !!
Stunningly beautiful in good weather though.
I did a lot of Salmon fishing on the Nith (pb. 14lb cock fish) and surrounding rivers as well as the Spey. My daughter lives in Edinburgh and I have good friends in Oban and Carnousti so I get up there quite a lot !
Also take holidays in the Orkneys where I fish Harrey, Swanney and Hundland Lochs for the wild Brownies.

Dont fish too much these days though, tend to shoot mostly !
