Fly Fishing In the Midlands

Hey folks

I've done a fair bit of sea fishing in my time but now its time to learn the artistic side of angling.

I've been keen on learning to Fly Fish for some time having tried it out disastrously a few years back (i take my hat off to the experienced fly fisher; pure skill) and failed miserably. Now with a few grey hairs and plenty more patience ( and sense may i add ) I.ll give it a proper shot.

Could anyone who reads this give me ideas of which rod & reel i should look at buying. Also does anyone have any good recommendations for rivers in the Midlands, so Staffs, Derbyshire, Notts etc..

I hope to hear from you soon..

Marcus

PS here's a pic of one of my buddies 11 miles off the coast of Penzance April this year (2011); caught a tiddler!

When up on our fishing holiday we usually do-
Bransford,near Worcester.Only small,usually pretty easy but pleasant.
Delbury Hall over at Diddlebury on way to Ludlow, very pleasant.
Hurst Farm near Bridgenorth
a dabble on the Severn sometimes and the Teme up around Lindridge and Tenbury Wells

Born London, now Surrey, soooooooooooooo a long way away from those fisheries. However we do try to do as many as possible in a week.Been going up to Bewdley(Arley) for over twenty years now so got to know most of the spots. Not fished the Corve however.Done the Lugg at Dinmore, had browns and chub, mate had some grayling.Think the BAA no longer have the trout fishery

Re: Fly Fishing In the Midlands

Have you had a look on the Wye and Usk Foundation site? I have fished a lot of their water on the Lugg and Arrow for grayling and Trout. They offer a voucher scheme where you buy the vouchers in advance and deposite the required amount in a box on the water, then fish. They've got loads of water. Put a search in on google. (Sorry, I haven't got the skills to put a link up on here!)
