| Memories Will these be distant memories????? I regard myself as being extremely fortunate in that I was born into a family of field sportsmen ranging from fly-fishing to game shooting. In actual fact my parent’s garden boundary is a spate river that boasts a good run of Salmon and Sewin. With such a family it was inevitable that I would follow in their footsteps and started fly-fishing and shooting from a very early age. My father was a great teacher and went out of his way to ensure that I appreciated and valued all living things. Even then (40yrs ago) he was a big advocate of catch and release and preached that I should only keep what was required for the table I remember him giving me my very first Labrador pup from his own breeding I was 13yrs old at the time (Many years later he told me that he was tired of me ruining his prized trained dogs) he guided me through the training programme and we both enjoyed many, many seasons of shooting over ‘Elsa’. I have never been without a trained gun dog since. Now that I have reached adulthood I still regard myself as being extremely fortunate and have managed to secure a profession in one of the field that I love, I am a professional dog trainer (my wife claims that I must be one of a few people who actually enjoys his work and who am I to question her) I love country life and strive to pass on my knowledge and experiences to my children (aided and abetted by their grandfather). I only hope that one day, God willing, should I become a grandparent that I shall be in a position to be given the opportunity to pass on my limited knowledge and experiences to my grandchildren. |
