Not one drop of rain.

No river action this week, went instead to a country park lake not too far outside the city. We arrived there at 5.15pm, mate picked me up after finishing work and off we went. What struck me first was the thought we`d made a howler, Take a look at the sky by the time we`d got to the water`s edge.

It got quite dark, F*@#, we just sat there waiting for the rain to start, but decided to give it a go anyway. They don`t allow fly fishing here, as there`s a path close to the water all the way round, so armed with tubs of worms and maggots, it was do or die. I was using a Wychwood 12ft truebait rod with a Wychwood bait runner reel and as they allow spinning, a Richard Walker 9ft spin rod with an ABU Cardinal reel. Lethal weapons in the hands of those that know what they`re doing, but me............. . It`s been so long since I`ve done this kind of fishing, to say I was rusty, would be too kind.. Looked to the west again, the sun was doing it`s best to make an appearance, then slowly but surely...

Fished on `til about 10.30pm, but nothing doing at all, had one rod bending take, but missed it through gabbing, packed up for 11pm and home.
In the end, a blank, but worth it for that sky and hopefully back on the river Sunday, if all goes well.

Peter

Re: Not one drop of rain.

Sorry you missed the good take Peter. Great pictures though, the water looks like a mirror in some of the pics.

Re: Not one drop of rain.

Hi Baz, didn`t mind the blank too much, mesmerised by that sky, it looked totally surreal. Going to the river tomorrow early, last before flying out for 2 weeks in Malta and a week in Sicily. May take a break from the forum for a while, unless something special happens, like a 50lb salmon or the like lol. How`s the fishing with you? not heard from you lately

Re: Not one drop of rain.

Hi Peter, aint been out for a couple of weeks. I did go on a boat trip (did a brief report on the sea fishing threads) and caught some nice black bream, and gurnards - which were very tasty I might add. Hopefully out tomorrow with the old chum mixer again.

Fantastic pictures of the sky, they look almost Biblical?
