Re: Shall I fish tomorrow???

Thanks Dan. It was a bit of a long shot anyway, as the water temps are still too cold for the trout to be active. Things have warmed up a tad in the past few days though and the river is fed off a reservoir, so the water temp is usually a bit warmer early season. Also, like a fool I did not check my fly box, as I was in a hurry and got to the river with no Wooly Bugger, which can be very effective for big, early season trout in my experience. I think they just can believe it when a nice big piece of food swims right by them after such a long winter, they can't help themselves from snapping at it!!!

Well, I'm off...down to the fishing shop and then maybe hit the river if it doesn't start pouring...have a great day folks!

Never mind you can't win 'em all. What a beautiful river to be fishing - even when nothing takes.

Next time

Pics, as promised...lost a ~10" rainbow not 5' from landing him when he threw the hook...oh well, not bad for a mere hour on the river...

The pics are a bit deceptive...the rocks is a great place to fish from, it's only a few inches deep through there and yet it is smack in the middle of the river. But to one side you have a fairly deep, fast moving section that can hold some big trout if you can get down to them and on the other side you have a shallower riffle that has some great hiding spots for trout that can be deadly during a hatch...but fishing either side you can fairly well keep the rocks out of play.

Re: Shall I fish tomorrow???

Looks like a lovely river, sorry to hear about the rainbow u-turn - were you fishing barbless hooks ? I've lost quite a few since I decided to only fish with the barb flattened, but, my own view is that I'd rather lose them than damage them too much.

So, with a river like this nearby, is it really a question of whether to go or not ?

Is the bridgepainted green ? Years ago I heard that bridges were usually painted green in the US because fewer people jumped off green bridges. Don't know if its true or relevant.

Anyway, good luck if you're going out this weekend.
