First time Fly Fisher

Hi all
Well after many years of, 'I'd love to try fly fishing', I actually went today for the first time and have to say I can see the attraction. Relaxing, exciting, skilful...I could go on. I intended to go for a couple of hours after some tuition. 8 hours later I returned home smiling ( and a few aches and pains surprisingly). Amazingly caught 4 rainbow trout and lost 2 more. Cant' wait till next time...sorry for rambling I just had to share it.

Yeah the proverbial Rabbit in the headlights for the first one. Also had a very able tutor to land the first 2. And properly struggled to get 3rd one off hook...so hardly set the world alight...but hey I loved it.

Welcome to the club!!, I had the same thought's 10yr's ago, never looked back since, after 30yr's of maggot drowning I decided to try my hand at fluff chucking, the transformation is mind blowing, a totaly different ball game.

Well done.
I see you are based in Worcestershire.Nice part of the world and i'm up there in two weeks time on our annual Severn barbel jaunt.Always do some trouting however. One place we always visit is Bransford fishery near Worcester.Only small but well kept with a decent owner and generally obliging fish. Can be a tad too easy at times, but NOT always. Will be trying Cob House fishery this time around, never been but has a trout pool and several coarse pools, not far from Worcester either.Another will be Delbury Hall on the way over towards Ludlow, what a stunner of a fishery,5 hours keep one and c/r =£15,can't be bad.

Re: First time Fly Fisher

I live about 5 minutes from Bransford. I didn't go there for my first time due to the owner of the Trout lake I did use ,offering me tuition for no extra cost than my day ticket. I expect I will give it a try shortly. When I feel a bit more confident.

Give it a try.You really do not need to cast any distance, quite often the fish are close in.It's not a hard place to catch. If its a hot sunny day, stick a sinker or sinktip on and fish it deep, they will still feed.Buzzers are good, just cast out and if there is any breeze, just let the line come around with the breeze. If no breeze, try a very very slow retrieve.Ron,the owner is a really decent bloke and he will put you right as to what methods are working.

Out of interest where did you go?.
