| a delve in my old fly box Although i'm usually found hideing in the sea forum, my past, as some here are aware, used to envolve shooting and fishing in hampshires test valley. hence at the time it was sort of natural for me to turn from the salt water and partake of a little winter greyling fishing on the float. then later start casting the fly before doing a little fly tyeing to fully embrace my vocation. As a result my fly fishing & tying kit has been dragged around with me since i left the river to persue a life as a townie here in wiltshire, after buying a digi cam for my sons birthday the other month i was curious about its capabillitys and so dug out the best of whats left of my hand tyed flies as a subject for some close up photography, another thing i'm not to hot on and so ere they be, picture below and descibed for your possible entertainment or derision ![]() ![]() centered is a sherry spinner varient, with light honey hackle hurl tail, orange silk (should be sherry red but i had none ) and gold wire ribbed body , light honey hackle and hackle point wings . above that is a red tag, with a red silk tag , peacock hurl body & a grizzle hackle. top left is a terrys terror which is as far as i know a red tag without a red tag ![]() centered is a tupps indespensible, with a pale hackle hurl tail, yellow & red silk body and a pale hackle, behind and to the right is a propper one with again pale hackle hurl tail, yellow and pink lambs wool dubbed body plus a somewhat sparse pale hackle. while furthest right is a pheasant tail, with pheasant hurl tail & body gold ribbing and a dark honey hackle,(a bit too long) this ones tied on a size 14 up eyed partridge hook where as the others are on size 16's of the same pattern i think. i might have to start tieing a few again, just for fun before my eyes get too shot.. __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |

| Re: a delve in my old fly box They look really good to me. I had a go at tying my own a couple of times, but unless it was a huge salt water fly, I was useless at it. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk |
