| 26.02.11 Dever Springs We set of for Dever Springs at 5am we arrived there at 7am stupid sat navs always give wrong travel times so we had to wait till 8am before we could fish We had a little walk round but were unable to see any fish. When we got fishing at 8am there were still no signs of trout unlike Avington were you can stalk. It was hard fishing nothing was working and i was beginning to think that the extra £10 and gone to Avington. I switched over to a bloodworm fly out of desperation and on my second cast had a stockie at 5.5 lb. was a great fight. this was taken about 12 i then had nothing till 4 when 2 more graced the bank again stock size all to a blue fritz. I got the impression that the lakes were very understocked as half way through the day when anglers had left they restocked the lakes with what was caught. i thought this was very strange as other places stock last thing or early morning. The facilities were excellent but i prefer my stalking which Dever is not. I got the impressions it was a lake stocked with big fish and if your lucky you might get one. That said the fish were in super condition but it was not what i expected. tj |

| Re: 26.02.11 Dever Springs Sounds like a decent enough day. It does seem strange about the way they restocked the fish i must admit. __________________ Blackwater Tackle Supplies Keep Ulster's Waters Healthy, Practice Catch and Release! |

| Re: 26.02.11 Dever Springs Thats strange stocking in the middle of the day. Have you tried Chalk Springs at Arundal had a day there last September with another forum and we had an excellent day with plenty of fish in view on all the lakes ,not as big as Devers but nice fish, took 3 on a dryfly and spent the rest of the day targeting a double figure Brown but only got it to come to the fly once when a little Rainbow (5lb) rushed in and grabbed it , after I had "lost" the Rainbow I never saw the Brown again. |

| Re: 26.02.11 Dever Springs I got the impression that trout fisheries only restocked after the numbers had dwindled a bit, rather than every day. I am sure thats what they do at Revels. The other problem you have is anglers taking more than they declare. But I guess they figure that into the stocking equation. | Re: 26.02.11 Dever Springs Shame the fishery didn't live up to expectations mate, still had a couple of nice fish though. ![]() Bought myself a fly reel and a couple of lines last week. Next week will be the rod, so there might well be a few more fluff chucking sessions this year. We'll have to go and have a bash somewhere. __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. | Re: 26.02.11 Dever Springs Mmmmmm,i had heard some conflicting reports about Dever, most not great either, however did not want to put you off so said nowt. Having said that i have also heard rumblings about Avington and Rockbourne. Both with regard to small stockie size fish, with not enough biggies, however that may have changed by now.Even Lechlade was in the doldrums for a while with moans again about lack of size.Avon Springs seems to be getting favourable reports however.Well done anyway, you winkled a couple out. Have never been to any of the above fisheries, out of any i wouldn't mind doing Lechlade or Avon Springs.Avington at £70/£80 whatever the price is,just seems way OTT to me. |
