| keeping the firsts going keeping the FIRST'S going what was your first fly outfit, mine consisted of an 8ft split cane rod and a small scarbrough reel, both had seen better days, the splines on the top section had become unglued so there was a perminant kink to the rod, and obviously there was no drag on the reel, they and I must have looked in a sorry state, but I was as proud as punch. |

| Re: keeping the firsts going First started fly fishing in the mid 70's.Built a fibretube-fiberglass 7 weight rod and coupled it with a rimfly reel.Managed to bust the rod in half after not too many outings,trying to whack a line out into a facing near gale . |

An old 9`0" split cane rod (no maker`s name)and a Rimfly Intrepid reel, loaded with a floating line, that sank more than it floated. Broke the rod on Rothesay Pier sea fishing (had a fixed spool reel attached)on holiday ![]() .Peter ![]() ![]() |
