Oi Oi all, Yesterday spent my morning & early afternoon WORKING at Avon Springs fishery in Durrington, Hampshire. To clarify, I work within the tackle trade & the company sales force & myself were all paid to test a new range of fly rods that we've just released on to the market. They are fast actioned, mid priced & cover 8'6" 5wt to 15' 10wt. I arrived early and had a chat with the baliff to get some clues. The others arrived, the clues stopped & we trecked off for bacon rolls & coffee. We all started fishing at 10 am. I must confess that I started on a rod of my own design, fishing the upper Avon. Using a bead bug fished up stream I soon started getting some interest. After an hour a lovely Grayling, (my first ever), took the bug, nearing the net it gained sanctuary in some overhanging shrubbery & fell off...Bugger. Working up stream I managed another 7 takes, two of which hooked up & were landed. The biggest went just over 1.5lb. It was now 12pm & I moved onto one of the lakes with the 8'6" works rod. Straight away I had a follow to a gold bead stalking bug from a good double, but it turned away at the last instant, still with it's mouth agape. I changed to a damsel nymph & took a fish on the third cast. The rod handled it brilliantly, giving plenty of feed back to me. A few minutes later & I netted a 7.75lb rainbow. Not a good looker, but it fought well. It was released to be caught another day. In the next hour no further action came my way. At 1.30pm I called it a day & returned to the office. All up, not a bad days work.

Re: Employers Day Out The hardest task that day was keeping the Brown sauce from dribbling down your chin from the bacon butty. Nice work if you can get it though. ![]()

Re: Employers Day Out As above, in agreement, nice report Skinhead. Its very frustrating when one of our finned friends makes a sharp exit at the last minute - I don't know if this is true or not, but I find that I lose more fish in the winter - maybe its just my technique or something. Sounds a great way to spend the working day though. Good to hear that the new rods are a success.
